The California slender salamander (Batrachoseps attenuatus) is a lungless salamander [2] that is found primarily in coastal mountain areas of Northern California, United States as well as in a limited part of the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada, California, in patches of the northern Central Valley of California, and in extreme southwestern Oregon.

The Kern Canyon slender salamander is endemic to California, in Kern County in the western United States. [1] This salamander is endemic to and only found in the forested regions of the southern Sierra Nevada south of the Lower Kern River. Much of the salamander's habitat is in the Sequoia National Forest between Bakersfield and Lake Isabella.
The Santa Lucia Mountains slender salamander (Batrachoseps luciae) is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae. It is endemic to California in the United States, where it is known only from Monterey County. [1] This salamander is distributed in the Santa Lucia Range in California's Central Coast region.

The Tehachapi slender salamander is closely related to the Kern Canyon slender salamander. It is considered a threatened species in California, and is found only in isolated areas of the Piute and Tehachapi Mountains of the Transverse Ranges in Southern California. Much of the salamander's habitat is currently located on land owned by Tejon Ranch.
Batrachoseps campi is one of the largest slender salamanders, a genus otherwise mainly made up of very small species, and can grow to over 6 cm in length. It has a relatively broad head, and is colored brown with numerous gray speckles. These speckles often cover most of the salamander, making it appear silvery-gray.
