Điện Biên (chữ Hán: 奠 邊) is a province in the Northwest region of Vietnam.It is bordered by Lai Châu to the northeast, Sơn La to the southeast, Pu'er City, Yunnan, China, to the northwest, and Phongsaly province in Laos to the west.
The district lies in the southeastern part of Điện Biên Province, to the immediate southeast of Điện Biên Phủ City, south of Tuần Giáo district, east of Điện Biên district, north/northwest of Sốp Cộp district and west of Sông Mã district and Thuận Châu district in Sơn La province.

The district is officially divided into 21 commune-level sub-divisions [1] (Hẹ Muông, Hua Thanh, Mường Lói, Mường Nhà, Mường Pồn, Na Tông, Na Ư, Noong Hẹt, Noong Luống, Núa Ngam, Pa Thơm, Phu Luông, Pom Lót, Sam Mứn, Thanh An, Thanh Chăn, Thanh Hưng, Thanh Luông, Thanh Nưa, Thanh Xương, Thanh Yên).
Điện Biên Phủ lies in Mường Thanh Valley, a 20 km (12 mi) long and 6 km (3.7 mi) wide basin sometimes described as "heart-shaped." It is on the western edge of Điện Biên Province, of which it is the capital, and is only about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the border with Laos .
Đại Lộc district is 25 km southwest of Da Nang, 70 km north of Tam Kỳ, and is located on the East-West Economic Corridor that, apart from Vietnam, also goes through Myanmar, Thailand and Laos.
