The race was hosted by the old Aqueduct race track from 1895 to 1955, except for 1946 when it was held at Belmont Park. It returned to Belmont Park from 1956 to 1959, 1968 to 1974, and again in 1994. In 2020 the event was moved to Belmont Park and held in early June. [1] There was no race held in 1909, 1911–1913, and 1933–1934.

The Sport Page Handicap was an American thoroughbred horse race run annually at Aqueduct Race Track in Ozone Park, Queens, New York for three-year-olds and up. Formerly a Grade III event, it's set at a distance of 7 furlongs on the dirt and offers a purse of $150,000 added.
The event was inaugurated on 28 June 1954 as the Distaff Handicap at the old Aqueduct racetrack, and was won by Robert S. Howard's British mare Mab's Choice, who was trained by the future US Hall of Fame trainer Charles E. Whittingham in a time of 1:24 2 ⁄ 5. [1]
That event ended in 1955 with the closing of the old Aqueduct track. [1] The track was closed until it was reconstructed in 1959. According to New York Racing Association the new event was inaugurated on 13 April 1960 as a race with an old name – Bay Shore Handicap for three-year-olds at a distance of one mile. [ 2 ]
