Thomas rescues Diesel, and is rewarded with a visit to the rescue center on the mainland. Thomas is placed on a raft and pulled by boat. The chain connecting the raft to the boat breaks during the trip, and a lost Thomas is eventually stranded on Misty Island.
When Thomas helps a friend in need, he is rewarded with an exciting trip to the Mainland. Along the way, he gets lost at sea and finds himself on the mysterious Misty Island, where he meets new friends Bash, Dash, and Ferdinand. Together they try to help Thomas find his way home.
With the help of his new friends, Thomas attempts to find his way back to Sodor and uncovers more of Misty Island's mysteries - including a tunnel that connects the two islands. Meanwhile, out at sea, Harold and Captain carry out a search party to look for Thomas.
