The present-day Gotemba Line was built as part of the original route of the Tōkaidō Main Line connecting Tokyo with Osaka. In May 2006, both the Tokyu and Sagami Railway (Sōtetsu) announced a plan to build a 12.7 km (7.9 mi) long connection to allow through services between the Sōtetsu Main Line and Tōyoko Line. The connection starts at Hiyoshi Station and head to Sōtetsu Main Line's Nishiya Station .
