First mayor under the first Allentown City Charter, sworn into office on May 19, 1867. Born February 16, 1816, in Lower Saucon in Northampton County, the son of Isaac McHose. He founded the Allentown Fire Brick Works in 1854 at Front and Gordon streets. This company, later renamed McHose and Ritter, was in business for 25 years.
