The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh is an ecclesiastical territory or metropolis of the Greek Orthodox Church in the Ohio River Valley of the United States, encompassing the state of West Virginia, and the majority of the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania, except for the Greater Philadelphia area and the Western part of Ohio.
It was indeed a western seminary in 1825, furnishing a ministry for the rapidly opening frontier territories along the Ohio River. [2] Since the 1959 consolidation, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary has been located on the former Pittsburgh-Xenia Seminary campus in the Highland Park/East Liberty section of Pittsburgh.
Bishop Sheen, may he rest in peace, is unquestionably best known from his television ministry. Yes he was an American Roman Catholic bishop and he was a published author. But if not for his two television programs in the 1950’s and 1960’s, would he have been named one of the most influential American Catholics in history?
Waltersheid was appointed auxiliary bishop of Pittsburgh with the titular see of California by Pope Benedict XVI on February 25, 2011. On March 11, 2011, Waltersheid was appointed as episcopal vicar for clergy and secretary for clergy. He was consecrated by Bishop David Zubik on April 25, 2011, at St. Paul's Cathedral in Pittsburgh.
