On July 1, 1960, control of the Military Personnel Records Center was transferred to the General Services Administration. The three active-duty military records centers at MPRC—the Air Force Records Center, the Naval Records Management Center, and the Army Records Center—were consolidated into a single civil service-operated records center.
Beginning in 2002, the military began a further effort to protect the use of social security numbers, even within the military itself. New regulations declared that on all but the most official of documents (such as a DD Form 214 or evaluation reports) social security numbers would only list the last four digits.
The DD 214 is a summary of military service. It contains total time in service, dates of entry and discharge, dates of rank, documentation of foreign service, ribbons, medals and badges awarded, professional military education completed, characterization of service, and reason for discharge.
U.S. armed forces leaders said on Tuesday that women should be required to register for the military draft, along with men.
Congress has not voted to make US women eligible for conscription, and nor has it resolved to automatically enroll all young American men into the military draft database – at least, not yet.
