The hotel formally opened on January 21, 1911. At the time it was the largest hotel in northeastern Pennsylvania with eleven stories and 250 rooms. It was considered a landmark of the city of Scranton and one of the top hotels in the Northeastern United States. The former site of the hotel now houses a parking garage and restaurant.
Carrollton featured in the 1983 TV movie Murder in Coweta County, although the Carrollton scenes were not actually filmed there. Other films shot in the Carrollton area include Conjurer with John Schneider, The Way Home with Dean Cain, and Between Love and a Hard Place with Bern Nadette Stanis. Carrollton was the home of actress Susan Hayward. [7]
