Chuck Girard (born on August 27, 1943) is an American musician, considered a pioneer of Contemporary Christian music. [1] He moved to Santa Rosa, California in his early teens, becoming a band member of the Castells and later the surf-rock band The Hondells .
Love Song was founded in 1970 by Chuck Girard, Tommy Coomes, Jay Truax, and Fred Field, prior to the conversion of any of the band members. [1] Field and Truax were the first two to convert to Christianity and began attending a bible study at Chuck Smith's Calvary Chapel where the other two eventually "accepted Jesus". [1]
In 1963 Bob Ussery got married, left the group, and moved out of California. He was temporarily replaced by Greg Van Krugel, Chuck Girard's roommate and high school friend, because he knew the material from attending rehearsals. After a few live performances as a substitute, he was elected to permanent membership.

The Beach Boys had recorded "Little Honda" for their 1964 album All Summer Long, and subsequently producer Gary Usher gave former Castells vocalist Chuck Girard a copy of the All Summer Long LP and instructed him to learn "Little Honda."
