Darmstadt (German: [ˈdaʁmʃtat] ⓘ) is a city in the state of Hesse in Germany, located in the southern part of the Rhine-Main-Area (Frankfurt Metropolitan Region). Darmstadt has around 160,000 inhabitants, making it the fourth largest city in the state of Hesse after Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden, and Kassel.
As borough of Darmstadt, Eberstadt has no sister cities, as sister cities are a matter for the city as a whole (see Darmstadt's sister cities). In a development area at the southeastern border (Am Frankenstein district), some streets are named according to Darmstadt's sister cities, e.g. Chesterfieldstraße or Grazstraße.
Darmstadt-Kranichstein railway station is on the Rhine-Main Railway and has services to Darmstadt main station, Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof and Mainz Hauptbahnhof on regional train line RB75 RB 15703, RB 15707, RB 15708, RB 15712, and STR 5 also serve the Kranichstein rail stop, with Busline A Darmstadt.

The Darmstadt tram network is a tram system which is the backbone of public transport in Darmstadt, Germany. There are ten lines running on a 42 kilometres (26 mi) long network [3] with four main routes, including an interurban route south from Eberstadt to Alsbach. As of 2019 the system served 164 stops, including 126 barrier-free stops. [2]
At the beginning of the 19th century, Darmstadt became the center of the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, which led to a major expansion of the city area. By 1875 at the latest, Darmstadt and Bessungen had finally grown together. On April 1, 1888, after lengthy negotiations, Bessungen was incorporated into Darmstadt.
Arheilgen is a district in the north of the city of Darmstadt in Hesse, Germany, incorporated in 1937. Arheilgen borders the Darmstadt district of Wixhausen to the North, to the West is the town of Weiterstadt, to the East is the Darmstadt district of Kranichstein and to the South is the city center of Darmstadt. The public transport system of Darmstadt serves tram stop "Frankenstein" (located at the foot of the mountain range, a steep 3 km walk from the ruins) with tram lines 1, 6, 7 and 8.
