Penampang (Malay: Pekan Penampang) is the capital of the Penampang District in the West Coast Division of Sabah, Malaysia. Its population was estimated to be around 93,616 in 2010, [1] with ethnic Kadazan as the majority. It contains, or is synonymous with, Donggongon, which as of 2007, it has a population of 78,086. [2]
In 2010, the population of Greater Kota Kinabalu was estimated at 855,556. Penampang (combined with Putatan sub-district) is the most densely populated district within the region, followed closely by Kota Kinabalu. It was forecasted that the combined population of these districts in 2020 was nearly 1.1 million.
