The gallery, which was founded in 2009 by Judith Neilson, [1] is located in a former warehouse and Rolls-Royce service depot. [2] The gallery holds two exhibitions a year, focusing on works by contemporary Chinese artists .
The all-male Penrod Society was formed in 1967 to boost membership for the Art Association of Indianapolis. The society has hosted an event, now known as the Penrod Art Fair, annually at Newfields since 1968. The first iteration of the event, called "An Afternoon at Oldfields", was a celebration of the recently donated Oldfields land.
