Cotacachi Cayapas Reserve contains 752,235 acres (3,044 km 2) of land and is located in the Imbabura and Esmeraldas provinces of Ecuador 87 miles (140 km) from Quito. Elevations in the reserve range from about 300 metres (980 ft) in the west to Cotacachi Volcano which reaches an elevation of 4,944 metres (16,220 ft) in the southeast. [1]

Atacames is a beach town and surround canton located on Ecuador's Northern Pacific coast. It is located in the province of Esmeraldas, approximately 30 kilometers south west from the capital of that province, which is also called Esmeraldas. In 2022 Atacames town had a population of 18,948, while the canton had 51,204 (in the 2022 census).
