The first Lowe's store, Mr. L.S. Lowe's North Wilkesboro Hardware, opened in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, in 1921 by Lucius Smith Lowe. Waterford is a census-designated place (CDP) comprising the primary village in the town of Waterford, New London County, Connecticut, United States. It is in the southeastern part of the town, bordered to the east by the city of New London. U.S. Route 1 (Boston Post Road) passes east–west through the community.
Waterford was a large agricultural town in the 19th century, having mostly sheep farms. Waterford was also widely known for its granite industry that lasted from the late 19th century to the 1930s. Graniteville is a district in Waterford that is named after this industry. The area today known as Crystal Mall was also home to granite quarries.

Waterford's first high school was constructed in 1956, and had 24 rooms. It was first occupied in January 1957 with 612 students in grades 7-9. The school became a four-year 9-12 school in 1959.
