William Russell Todd (May 1, 1928 – February 12, 2023) was a United States Army major general who served as commander of the 1st Cavalry Division from 1976 to 1978. He graduated from Norwich University in 1950, and was the university's president from 1982 to 1992.
Todd was the son of Supreme Court Associate Justice Thomas Todd and his first wife, Elizabeth Harris. He was born near Danville, Kentucky, and continued to reside here through his childhood and adult life. Todd briefly attended Transylvania University before his transfer and graduation at the College of William and Mary in 1809.

Thomas Todd (January 23, 1765 – February 7, 1826) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1807 to 1826. Raised in the Colony of Virginia, he studied law and later participated in the founding of Kentucky, where he served as a clerk, judge, and justice.
