A culture hero is a mythological hero specific to a group of people (cultural, ethnic, religious, etc.), who changes the world through invention or discovery.A typical culture hero might be credited as the discoverer of fire or agriculture, songs, tradition, law or religion, and is usually one of the most important legendary figures of a people, sometimes as the founder of its ruling dynasty.

The Greek heroes can be grouped into an approximate mythic chronology, based on the stories of events such as the Argonautic expedition and the Trojan War. Over the course of time, many heroes, such as Heracles, Achilles, Hector and Perseus, came to figure prominently in Greek mythology.

The figures in the lists below are listed either by the name of their article on Wikipedia or, if there is no article, according to the name by which they are most commonly attested.
