The Cure's debut album, Three Imaginary Boys (1979), reached number 44 on the UK Albums Chart. [5] The next two albums, Seventeen Seconds (1980) and Faith (1981), were top 20 hits in the UK, reaching number 20 and number 14 respectively. A further US bioplastic vinyl was released on Capitol records. There were also a cassette edition and a double cassette. A further "blood red moon" vinyl edition was released – a line taken from "Endsong" – featuring a red hue to the regular artwork and including the regular songs plus their instrumental counterparts.

The vinyl edition is a collection of all 13 of the Cure's commercially released singles up to that point in chronological order. "10:15 Saturday Night" was dropped though, possibly because it was only released in France. The CD edition features the same tracks as the vinyl edition, but also includes an extra track from four of the band's albums.

This box set is a four-disc compilation of B-sides and rarities, digitally remastered by Chris Blair at Abbey Road Studios from their original tapes.
