Pinnacle Peak and its surrounding area became a part of the Arizona State Trust Land. In the 1980s, the area was annexed into Scottsdale and was established as a 185-acre (75 ha) park. In 1994, 35 acres (14 ha) were sold to a housing developer in exchange for the funding and construction of the park's main trail. [ 7 ]

The mountain is officially named Pinnacle Peak [2] on maps, but hardly anyone calls it by that name. [3] The nearest higher peak is Mount Degenhardt , 0.6 mi (0.97 km) to the northeast. [ 1 ] The Chopping Block can be seen from the North Cascades National Park Newhalem visitor center, weather permitting.
The 256 acre Pinnacle Peak is encompassed by the 334 acre Pinnacle Peak Park. The steep, forested, one mile Cal Magnusson Trail is located on the north side of the peak. The approximately 160-acre Adobe Mountain Desert Railroad Park is located south of Pinnacle Peak Road on 43rd Avenue in the City of Glendale, Arizona. In addition, it has several World War II-era Internment Camp Houses, originally intended as temporary housing at the Leupp Isolation Center.
