MythBusters is a science entertainment TV program created and produced by Australia's Beyond Television Productions for the Discovery Channel. There is no consistent system for organizing MythBusters episodes into seasons. The show did not follow a consistent calendar of on- and off-air periods for its first-aired episodes.
Each MythBusters episode focuses typically on two or more popular beliefs, Internet rumors, or other myths. Many of the myths are on mechanical effects as portrayed in live-action films and television of fictional incidents. The list of myths tested by the series is compiled from many sources, including the personal experiences of cast and crew ...
The cast of the television series MythBusters perform experiments to verify or debunk urban legends, old wives' tales, and the like. This is a list of the various myths tested on the show as well as the results of the experiments (the myth is Busted, Plausible, or Confirmed).
The MythBusters explained that unlike their small-scale box, the surface area of a full-size house's windows are only a fraction of the building's total surface area, negating the effect. When other components of a hurricane, such as rain and flying debris, were added, the house was again left standing, but the windows were broken, resulting in ...
A motorcycle moving at freeway speed can ride across the surface of a lake, as demonstrated in a YouTube viral video. Confirmed (but not recommended) Adam and Jamie set up a small-scale test using a remote-controlled toy motorcycle and a fabricated small pond of scaled depth, but in all their test runs, the high-speed camera showed the RC ...
This episode explored some of the MythBusters' favorite stores and vendors they use when buying supplies for the show. The episode also included a tutorial on how to make ballistics gel by Adam and Kari (which is frequently used in the MythBusters' experiments), and it revealed the source of the often referenced "Little Black Book", the Pocket Ref.
For full-scale tests, they used a mast fitted with sensors at depths of 6 in (15 cm) and 2.5, 15 and 25 ft (0.8, 4.6 and 7.6 m), with a fifth at the surface. The first two depths were intended to represent the depth at which a swimmer's torso would be submerged if he were floating or treading water.
To confirm the stated myth, the MythBusters obtained a full-sized 52-gallon (200 L) water heater and built a shack around it with a roof that followed standard California building codes. The water heater eventually exploded, shooting through the roof 500 ft (150 m) into the air and disintegrating the shack.
