The 6.8mm Remington Special Purpose Cartridge (6.8 SPC, 6.8 SPC II or 6.8×43mm) is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate rifle cartridge that was developed by Remington Arms in collaboration with members of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and United States Special Operations Command [6] to possibly replace the 5.56 NATO cartridge in short barreled rifles (SBR) and carbines.
The Barrett M468 was a variant of the M4 Carbine, rechambered for a heavier and larger 6.8mm bullet for increased terminal performance. The designation of M468 stands for an M4 carbine chambered for the 6.8mm SPC cartridge. It was an attempt to create an optimal Special Operations close-to-medium range carbine for Close Quarter Battle (CQB).
Initial design focused on optimal performance with supersonic bullets in the 85-115 gr (5.5-7.5 g) class, therefore a 1:11 twist rate barrel with 5R rifling was selected. Subsequent consumer interest in firing "heavy-for-caliber" subsonic bullets led to the design, testing, and production of 1:7 twist barrels to stabilize the longer heavier ...
The barrel is 409 mm (16.12 in), chrome lined, and features a six groove, right hand, 1:230 mm (9 in) twist. [ 4 ] In August 2010, Ruger announced that the rifle would be offered in the 6.8mm Remington SPC cartridge.
The .277 Fury SAAMI (voluntary) MAP chamber pressure of 80,000 psi (551.6 MPa) enables a 135 grains (8.7 g) projectile muzzle velocity of 3,000 feet per second (914 m/s) from a 16-inch (406 mm) barrel. [1] [10] It also means that the .277 Fury is normally chambered in small arms that are capable of handling the accompanying bolt thrust safely.
8.6mm Blackout (8.6×43 mm), also sometimes referred to as 8.6 BLK, [1] is a centerfire rifle cartridge developed by the firearms manufacturer Q, LLC. [6] It utilizes a shortened case from the 6.5mm Creedmoor necked up to an 8.6 mm caliber (8.585 mm or 0.338 in diameter) projectile. 8.6 Blackout is designed for use in bolt-action rifles or as a caliber conversion for AR-10 style rifles.
The LWRC PSD is an ultra-short barrel carbine with an 8-inch barrel and Magpul CTR stock. Derived from the M6A2 carbine, it comes chambered in 5.56mm NATO or 6.8mm Remington SPC. [11] It is also available without a stock as the M6A2-P Pistol, but is semi-automatic and also chambered in 5.56mm and 6.8mm Remington SPC. [12]
Very-low-drag bullets with C b ≥ 1.10 lb/in 2 (over 773 kg/m 2) can be designed and produced on CNC precision lathes out of mono-metal rods, but they often have to be fired from custom made full bore rifles with special barrels. [68] Ammunition makers often offer several bullet weights and types for a given cartridge.
