He Jingzhi composed the "Song of Guilin Scenic Area" [Note 2] during his visit to Guilin. Over 800 years ago, during the Southern Song dynasty, Wang Zhenggong wrote the famous line "Guilin's landscape is the best under heaven [Note 3] in his poem "A Grand Banquet Encouraging the Emperor", [Note 4] which made Guilin's scenery renowned worldwide.
Guilin is one of China's most popular tourist destinations, [3] and the epithet "By water, by mountains, most lovely, Guilin" (山水甲天下) [4] is often associated with the city. The State Council of China has designated Guilin a National Famous Historical and Cultural City , doing so in the first edition of the list.
The district is mostly rural and hilly, marked by the same dramatic karst topography for which Guilin is famous. Tourist attractions include Snake World, Xiongsheng Tiger and Bear Village, and Crocodile Kingdom. The district is also known as a center of luohan guo (Siraitia grosvenorii) production. Olympic diver Li Ting is a native of Lingui.

The Jingjiang Princes' City scenic area is a highest-grade tourist resource in the Guilin. It is mainly composed of Chengyun (Be Ordained by Heaven) Gate, Chengyun Hall, Bedchamber, Ancestral Temple, The Altar of the Earth and Harvests, pavilions, terraces and towers. The whole city is a building complex decorated with red walls and yellow tiles.
