The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is a non-profit [2] American automobile club and sanctioning body supporting Autocross, Rallycross, HPDE, Time Trial, Road Racing, and Hill Climbs in the United States. Formed in 1944, it runs many programs for both amateur and professional racers.
SCCA Pro Racing continues to sanction Trans Am Series events and provide contracted event operations services to the series. In January 2017, SCCA Pro Racing and the Trans Am Race Company, LLC (TARC) signed an unprecedented 25-year agreement, renewing their earlier partnership. Since 2012, SCCA GT1, GT2, and GT3 cars are allowed in the series.
Starting in 2009, older World Challenge cars became eligible (with minor modifications) for competition in SCCA racing. Under the SCCA's General Competition Rules (GCR), [9] the Super Touring category allows World Challenge GTs to compete in STO and Touring cars to compete in STU. In 2013 the STO class was merged into the T1 and GT2 classes.

The SCCA National Championship Runoffs is the end-of-year championship race meeting for Sports Car Club of America Club Racing competitors. Divisional champions and other top drivers from the SCCA's 116 regions are invited to participate at the Runoffs. National championships are awarded to the winners of each class.
SCCA Pro Racing introduced the pro series soon after Ford wanted to support the Spec Racer. The first season saw fields of around 25 cars. David Tenney won the first ever Spec Racer Ford Pro Series race on July 2, 1994 at the Des Moines Street Circuit. Tenney won the race after a lengthy battle for the lead with Keith Scharf. [1]

It was the first post-World War II sports car series organized in the United States. An amateur championship, it was eventually replaced by the professional United States Road Racing Championship and the amateur American Road Race of Champions, which continues to this day as the SCCA National Championship Runoffs.
