Built at the time that Daraga was a visita of Cagsawa, the church was erected atop a hill in barangay Santa Maria overlooking the Mayon Volcano. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] When the Mayon Volcano erupted on February 1, 1814, the residents of Cagsawa transferred to Daraga after the destruction of their church. [ 6 ]

The Cagsawa ruins are located 2.2 km (1.4 mi) from the town of Daraga and are approximately 8 km (5.0 mi) from the city of Legazpi. [3] [4] They are also 3.3 km (2.1 mi) from the Legazpi Airport and a 55-minute flight from Manila. [5] By bus, the location is 12 to 14 hours away from Manila. [6]
Daraga was opened in November 1914 as part of the Legazpi Division Line from Tabaco, Albay to Iriga, Camarines Sur via Legazpi City. The station was expanded in 1938 for the completion of the Manila-Legazpi Line. After years of neglect, repair works were done in 2014, when PNR was given Php1.7B for Manila-Bicol line rehabilitation.
Rodel Masigan Batocabe (April 25, 1966 – December 22, 2018) was a Filipino lawyer, politician, and member of the Ako Bicol Political Party (AKB). Batocabe served in the House of Representatives of the Philippines for three terms from 2010 until his murder in office on December 22, 2018, at a gift-giving event for senior citizens in the village of Burgos, Daraga municipality, Albay.
