"All Apologies" was released as a double A-side single with "Rape Me" on December 6, 1993, on CD, cassette tape, and 7-inch and 12-inch vinyl record formats. The implementation of chords using particular tunings is a defining part of the literature on guitar chords, which is omitted in the abstract musical-theory of chords for all instruments. For example, in the guitar (like other stringed instruments but unlike the piano ), open-string notes are not fretted and so require less hand-motion.
In this case, the chord is viewed as a C major seventh chord (CM 7) in which the third note is an augmented fifth from root (G ♯), rather than a perfect fifth from root (G). All chord names and symbols including altered fifths, i.e., augmented (♯ 5, +5, aug5) or diminished (♭ 5, o 5, dim5) fifths can be interpreted in a similar way.
