Michael Sean Smith (born 1963) [1] is an American interior designer based in Los Angeles. Smith was appointed by President Barack Obama to the Committee for the Preservation of the White House from 2008-2016 and is responsible for the 2010 makeover of the Oval Office .
Smith was awarded the commission, and the final design attracted much attention. [3] Aesthetically, he is known for clean, modernist design aesthetic. [7] In 2008 Smith was appointed to the San Francisco Arts Commission. [8] In 2005 his firm opened a New York office. [2] As of 2009 the firm employs approximately 20 people. [4]
In 1900, Smith donated nearly $75,000 to erect an engineering building at Syracuse University, and the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse was named after him. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Smith was a major financial booster of Syracuse rowing.

One has one of the few remaining Eastlake interiors in the city. The earliest house in the district, the Smith-Collins House, dated to 1854 with an 1875 renovation, has since been demolished, spurring historic preservation efforts throughout Yonkers. [2] Most of the district was built after 1900. [3]
