The RB.106 was a two-shaft design with two axial flow compressors each driven by its own single stage turbine and reheat. It was of similar size to the Rolls-Royce Avon, allowing it to be used as a drop-in replacement, but it would have produced about twice the thrust (with reheat) at 21,750 lbf (96.7 kN).
With the same bore and stroke as the AE, the lightweight single-cylinder 2-stroke is 29 cc, 1/8 bhp, revs to 3500 rpm, and weighs 3 lb 12 oz, 5 lb 12 oz with flywheel. Like many Stuart Turner engines the Lightweight had iron pistons. It was water-cooled, and was available either as a finished engine or as a set of castings.
Originally founded in 1927 as Zadrugar, they build tractors and engines. The engines are based on originally licensed Perkins engine models. Some of the tractors were based on Landini and Massey Ferguson models, originally licensed. In 2009, IMR formed a partnership or joint venture with IMT, also of Serbia. [1]
Hersham and Walton Motors was founded in 1938 by John Heath, an excellent race driver and talented engineer. Heath was joined by George Abecassis in 1946. Together, they moved the business into a building based on New Zealand Avenue in Walton on Thames which was previously used by Vickers during the war as part of their aircraft construction facility.
The other engine, Engine No 7, is named Bessie after Sir Prescott's wife. [4] The engine house also houses two steam turbine water pumps. One of these steam turbines has now been motorised to demonstrate its inner workings. [6] The waterworks is adjacent to the A316 (just before it becomes the M3 motorway), between Sunbury-on-Thames and Hanworth.
The first known example is a 7.2 litres (440 cu in) engine in the 1920 French Corona car; [1] however it is not known if any cars were sold. Packard also experimented with an automobile powered by an inline 12 in 1929. [2] The straight-12 has also been used for large military trucks. [citation needed]
The new engine differed from the RCo.8 in having a new "zeroth stage" at the front of the low-pressure compressor, further increasing cold airflow around the engine. The RCo.10 first flew in the modified prototype Avro Vulcan VX770 on 9 August 1957 only for the aircraft to be lost in a crash the following year .
