Taylor-Stevenson Ranch is an historic 640-acre working ranch located near Reliant Stadium on Almeda Rd. in Houston, TX. [1] The ranch was officially designated in the Congressional Record as a "Texas Century Ranch" which recognizes ownership by the same family for over a century. [2]
During that year the Almeda area became a part of HISD. In 1981 a new Almeda Elementary School campus opened. [23] The current Almeda campus opened in February 2011. [24] Until the fall of 2011, residents east of Almeda Road were zoned to Woodson K-8 School, [19] [20] while residents west of Almeda Road were zoned to Lawson Middle School.
The community was located along a main street that is now known as Almeda Genoa Road (the road from Almeda to Genoa). The east end of the community was the Old Galveston Road (Texas State Highway 3) and the Galveston, Houston, Henderson Railroad. The western edge was Freestone Street and the railway just to the west.
The hospital is on a 118-acre (48 ha) campus on Old Spanish Trail and Almeda, just on the edge of the Texas Medical Center. It is accredited by the Joint Commission, and has 343 hospital beds, a 40-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, and a 120-bed transitional care unit for long-term care.
It runs from I-45 west to I-69/US 59 on the north side of Houston. The road is known locally as Aldine-Bender Road. FM 525 was designated on June 21, 1945, from US 59, 10 miles (16 km) north of Houston, west to US 75 (now I-45). On March 1, 1961, the eastern terminus was relocated south to link up with a proposed interchange at Lee Road and US 59.
The Almeda Road Bridge over Brays Bayou is a bridge located in Houston, Texas and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [1] The bridge was designed by J. G. McKenzie and Don Hall Constructors and is one of the last continuous span concrete girder bridges to be designed during the City Beautiful movement.
State Highway 288 was designated on September 26, 1939 as the renumbering of the portion of State Highway 19 south of downtown Houston. On August 1, 1962, SH 288 was extended to FM 1495. On June 25, 1981, SH 288 was rerouted from I-45 to MacGregor Way in Houston on the new freeway. The original routing ran southward along Almeda Road in Houston.
In the era of racial segregation, Almeda Road, a road located in Third Ward area that at that time served as a corridor to Downtown Houston, was a busy commercial corridor. [7] The construction of Interstate 45 in the 1950s separated portions of the historic Third Ward from the rest of Third Ward and brought those portions into Downtown.
