In 1951, husband and wife Irving and Anna Heath built the Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, New York, just outside of Binghamton. [1] [2] Races were initially sanctioned by the Southern Tier Stock Car Club which also sanctioned the Shangri-La Speedway just 30 miles away.
Dave Kneisel started his racing career in 1950 at the 1/5 mile asphalt Bone's Stadium near Pottstown PA. In 2012, Mike Colsten was diagnosed with mesothelioma. During surgeries, treatment and recovery, he continued to compete, and claimed two of his five track championships at Five Mile Point Speedway. [3] [4] [7] Colsten's son, Joey, began competing with and against his father in 2003, and has continued the racing tradition. [8]
