Avon-by-the-Sea (often called simply Avon; pronunciation: / æ v ɒ n /, AH-von [17] [18]) is a borough in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 1,933, [8] an increase of 32 (+1.7%) from the 2010 census count of 1,901, [19] [20] which in turn reflected a decline of 343 (−15.3%) from the 2,244 counted in the 2000 census.
The township was created by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 21, 1849, from portions of Shrewsbury Township, [25] at which time the newly formed township stretched from the Shrewsbury River to the southern tip of Avon-by-the-Sea. [26]
