Etowah Indian Mounds are a 54-acre (220,000 m 2) archaeological site in Bartow County, Georgia, south of Cartersville.Built and occupied in three phases, from 1000–1550 CE, the prehistoric site is located on the north shore of the Etowah River.
By 1870 the railroad had 14 miles (23 km) of 5 ft (1,524 mm) broad gauge track connecting Cartersville to Taylorsville, Georgia, but further growth was apparently impeded by shady financial dealings by then Governor Rufus Bullock, Hanniball Kimball, and other associates.
After the A&BAL opened in late 1904, the 22-mile Rockmart-Cartersville link and the Coal City-Pell City tracks became branches off the main line. [8] The line officially opened for freight traffic on December 5, 1904, and passenger service July 2, 1905.

After being annexed by Cartersville in 1957, Goodyear began selling off its homes. In 1963, Atco's school was closed, while in 2003, Goodyear closed the Atco Mill, laying off the remaining 319 employees. [8] Much of the plant was razed in 2009 and 2010. Atlanta Dragway was built in 1975 by Gene Bennett and originally had been graded out for an airport. The original airport tower served as the original timing tower, and the track direction was the same as the airport without asphalt, just Georgia red clay.
