The Blackwater or Munster Blackwater (Irish: An Abhainn Mhór, The Great River) is a river which flows through counties Kerry, Cork and Waterford in Ireland. It rises in the Mullaghareirk Mountains in County Kerry and then flows in an easterly direction across County Cork through the towns of Mallow and Fermoy .
These include a well on the grounds of Blackwater Castle, in Castlewidenham townland near Castletownroche, which is close to a former sheela na gig site. The IRD Duhallow LIFE SAMOK Programme was a conservation and restoration strategy for the protected and endangered species living in the Munster Blackwater SAC, including the River Allow.
