Pennsylvanians have an easier way to connect to behavioral or mental health crisis services. Dialing 988 connects callers directly to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The 988 Lifeline provides, free and confidential support over call or text for people in distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Behavioral and mental health crisis services first became available through 988 in July 2022. Individuals can call, text, or chat with 988 will be directly connected to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The existing Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) remains available.
