Kamiak Butte County Park is located in Whitman County, Washington between the towns of Palouse and Pullman in Eastern Washington, near the border of Idaho. It is named after Chief Kamiakin of the Yakama tribe. Most of the park's 298 acres (121 ha) consist of timberland on the northern slopes of Kamiak Butte.

Steptoe Butte is a quartzite island jutting out of the silty loess of the Palouse hills in Whitman County, Washington, in the northwest United States. The 3,612-foot (1,101 m) butte is preserved as Steptoe Butte State Park Heritage Site , a publicly owned 150-acre (61 ha) recreation area located 12 miles (19 km) north of Colfax .

Jump off Joe lies in a semi-arid environment within the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains.Being nearly 2,000 feet (610 m) above the Columbia River, Jump off Joe receives more snow than the Tri-Cities and can remain snow covered for much of the winter season.

The Missoula Floods discharged into Lake Spokane, through the Grand Coulee, greatly enlarging it, passed over Dry Falls and then ponded in and inundated the Quincy Basin, covering over 1500 km 2 (585 mi 2) and creating the Ephrata Fan (a deposit of boulders, cobbles, and pebbles where the flood waters discharged into the basin).
The park features camping, trails for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing, athletic fields, and picnicking facilities [3] as well as the Puffer Butte and Wohelo retreat centers. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] In the late 1950s and early 1960s, a rope tow for alpine skiing was operated at the park by a private ski club.
