In many word games, notably in Scrabble, a player must build a word using a certain set of letters. If a player is obliged to use a q, but does not have a u, it may be possible to play words from this list. Not all words in this list are acceptable in Scrabble tournament games. The letters Q, X and Z are absent since these letters are very rare and only occur in foreign words. These letters and the foreign letters "Ä", "Ö" and "Ü", which are used in a few Norwegian words, can be played with a blank. C and W also occur only in foreign words, but they are not so rare, [35] so they were included.
Scrabble is a word game in which two to four players score points by placing tiles, each bearing a single letter, onto a game board divided into a 15×15 grid of squares. The article lists the Scrabble words in North America which are q but no u which are allowed in Scrabble, but it seems to have omitted the word "talaq". This word would be acceptable in the United Kingdom as a word with a q but no u - I have played in in Scrabble, and it is listed in a book called "Official Scrabble Lists".
