Out of Darkness, Shining Light is a 2019 historical novel by Zimbabwean writer and lawyer Petina Gappah. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Her fourth novel, it was published by Faber & Faber in the UK and by Scribners in the US.
It was written by Cowper in 1773 as a poem entitled "Light Shining out of Darkness". [1] The poem was the last hymn text that Cowper wrote. It was written following his attempted suicide while living at Olney in Buckinghamshire.
