The Sandhills, or Carolina Sandhills, is a 15–60 km wide region within the Atlantic Coastal Plain province, along the inland margin of this province.

[4] Historically, county government in South Carolina has been fairly weak. [5] The 1895 Constitution made no provision for local government, effectively reducing counties to creatures of the state.
