Frye and Chesterman was an American architectural firm formed in 1900 by partners Edward Graham Frye (1870–1942) [1] and Aubrey Chesterman (1874–1937) [1] with offices in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1913 the firm moved to Roanoke, Virginia. [2] Edward Frye had an established architectural practice in Lynchburg in the 1890s.
Two of the city's three remaining taverns of the period, the Kentucky Hotel (118-0177) and Nichols Tavern (118-0020), are located on Fifth Street. Perhaps the last two of Lynchburg's early double-pile town houses (or stores) are located at 612 and 708 Fifth Street (118-5318-0018 and 118-5318-0027, respectively).
Lynchburg was established in Campbell County in 1786, incorporated as a town in 1805, and separated from Campbell County when it became an independent city in 1852. Lynchburg has annexed additional land from Bedford County and Campbell County through the years, most recently in 1976.
