The Penrhyn Main Line class is a class of three narrow gauge steam locomotives built for the Penrhyn Quarry Railway (PQR). These locomotives were built by the Hunslet Engine Company between 1882 and 1893 and supplied specifically to work the railway that connected the Penrhyn Quarry near Bethesda in north Wales to Port Penrhyn on the Menai Strait.
Along with parts of Alice which had been bought for spares, Holy War went to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in March 1970, [8] [9] where it was the Quainton Railway Society's only narrow gauge locomotive. [5] After being used in Buckinghamshire it was purchased by Rev Alan Cliff and returned to Wales in 1975, going to the Bala Lake Railway.
This is the locomotive which is now preserved at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, Australia, although she may be in store and not on public display. Hunslet 4-6-0 Locomotive no. 1229 of 1916, formerly of Cattle Creek Mill, is currently stored at ANGRMS, Woodford QLD, Australia. Awaiting restoration. [7]

In 1870, Hunslet constructed its first narrow gauge engine Dinorwic, a diminutive 1 ft 10 + 3 ⁄ 4 in (578 mm) gauge 0-4-0 ST for the Dinorwic Slate Quarry at Llanberis. This engine, later renamed Charlie , was the first of 20 similar engines built for this quarry and did much to establish Hunslet as a major builder of quarry engines.
It is the eldest complete example of a standard gauge Hunslet-built industrial locomotive. Currently on static display. [74] No. 469 Hastings: 0-6-0 ST: Kent & East Sussex Railway: Built in 1888 for Manchester Ship Canal contractors, originally named Liverpool. Upon it being sold to Price, Wills & Reeves, the locomotive was renamed Hastings.
