The first BASIS Curriculum School, BASIS Tucson, was founded in Tucson in 1998 by Michael Block and Olga Block, intending to educate students at an internationally competitive level. In 2003, BASIS Scottsdale was opened. In 2010, BASIS Oro Valley was founded. A year later, BASIS opened three schools at once in Chandler, Peoria, and Flagstaff. [6]

Approximately 2,000 students are enrolled, and because of this, Peoria is a Class 4A school, as rated by the Arizona Interscholastic Association. Its mascot is the Panther. Peoria is the fifth-largest and oldest high school in the Peoria Unified School District. Peoria's sports and arts programs are referred to as the “Panther Pride”.
The following state routes run through Peoria: Illinois Route 6 runs along the northwestern portion of the city as an extension of I-474. It is a four-lane freeway that runs from the I-74/474 intersection northeast to Illinois Route 29 south of Chillicothe. It is marked as a north–south road. Illinois Route 8 roughly parallels I-74 to the south.
