The gang's name refers to the neighborhood in Rome, the Magliana, from which most of its members came. The Magliana Gang was involved in criminal activities during the Italian "years of lead" (or anni di piombo). The organization was tied to other Italian criminal organizations such as the Cosa Nostra, Camorra and the 'Ndrangheta.
