Joseph Incagnoli (1959–2019), better known as Joe Harvard, was an American musician, record producer, and writer, who played a key role in developing the alternative rock scene in Boston, Massachusetts, in the 1980s. Cain graduated in 1983 from Compton High School in Compton, California. He attended Stanford University on an academic scholarship, and joined the football team as a walk-on. He later transferred to Oregon Institute of Technology, after Greg McMackin, who was the assistant linebackers coach at Stanford, obtained the head coaching position.
In 2008, Cain joined the Faculty of Music at Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, where he leads several ensembles, and teaches jazz curriculum and piano.
