The side effects of cyproterone acetate (CPA), a steroidal antiandrogen and progestin, including its frequent and rare side effects, have been studied and characterized. It is generally well-tolerated and has a mild side-effect profile, regardless of dosage, when it used as a progestin or antiandrogen in combination with an estrogen such as ethinylestradiol or estradiol valerate in women.
In women, the most common adverse effects of MPA are acne, changes in menstrual flow, drowsiness, and can cause birth defects if taken by pregnant women. Other common side effects include breast tenderness , increased facial hair, decreased scalp hair, difficulty falling or remaining asleep, stomach pain, and weight loss or gain. [ 24 ]
According to a 1998 study, [16] 2.7% of middle school (age 9-13) students in the United States reported using steroids, with 2.8% being female and 2.6% being male. A 1988 study found that 6.6% of 12th grade (17 or 18 years old) students use or have used steroids.
Some examples of virilizing effects are growth of the clitoris in females and the penis in male children (the adult penis size does not change due to steroids [medical citation needed]), increased vocal cord size, increased libido, suppression of natural sex hormones, and impaired production of sperm. Oxandrolone is an androgen and synthetic anabolic steroid (AAS) medication to help promote weight gain in various situations, to help offset protein catabolism caused by long-term corticosteroid therapy, to support recovery from severe burns, to treat bone pain associated with osteoporosis, to aid in the development of girls with Turner syndrome, and for other indications.
[8] [15] Nandrolone has strong anabolic effects and weak androgenic effects, which give them a mild side effect profile and make them especially suitable for use in women and children. [ 8 ] [ 15 ] [ 16 ] There are metabolites of Nandrolone that act as long-lasting prodrugs in the body, [ 8 ] such as 5α-Dihydronandrolone .
A steroidal antiandrogen (SAA) is an antiandrogen with a steroidal chemical structure. [1] [2] [3] They are typically antagonists of the androgen receptor (AR) and act both by blocking the effects of androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and by suppressing gonadal androgen production.
[3] [12] It has strong anabolic effects and weak androgenic effects, which give it a mild side effect profile and make it especially suitable for use in women and children. [3] [12] [13] NPP is a nandrolone ester and a long-lasting prodrug of nandrolone in the body. [3] NPP was first described in 1957 and was introduced for medical use in 1959. [3]
