1954-The School of Nursing was shifted to Medical College campus. 1960-Diploma programme in Teaching and Administration started with an annual intake of 10 students. 1963- School of Nursing was upgraded to College of Nursing with the starting of Post Basic B.Sc (N) for diploma Nurses which was the first of its kind in South East Asia.
The college has five areas of speciality training: mental-health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, obstetrical and gynaecological nursing and community-health nursing. Although the number of male students permitted to enroll in the school was originally restricted to 12.5 percent of applicants, the restriction has been removed.

Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) is a state university located in Thrissur, Kerala, India.It was established by the Kerala University of Health Sciences Act 2010, for ensuring proper and systematic instruction, teaching, training, and research and also to have uniformity in the various academic programmes in medical and allied subjects in the State of Kerala.
The School of Medical Education is a constituent college under the Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies, established by the Government of Kerala. It was previously run by the Mahatma Gandhi University. It is a self-financing professional college, offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the medical and para-medical faculties.
The first batch of students was admitted in October 2006. The annual admission is 150 students. [1] The four-and-a-half-year course offered by the institution is M.B.B.S. and it has to precede a one-year period serving as an intern. [1] The hospital also have MD/MS courses in various department as per the NMC norms.
In the state of Kerala currently there are 1650 govt medical college seats. [1] These colleges impart training in Modern medicine. The health education system in Kerala also has Medical colleges that impart training in fields of Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani medicine, Siddha and Veterinary medicine.
