The Medical Council of Jamaica is the licensing body for doctors in Jamaica. Doctors in Jamaica are required to take continuing medical education courses to keep their licences. The Medical Association of Jamaica evolved from the British Medical Association Jamaica Branch which was constituted as the first overseas branch of the British Medical Association in 1877. It has over 2000 members, including students. The Association celebrated its Golden Jubilee as an independent organisation in June 2015. [1]

The hospital was designed by The Architects Collaborative (TAC) of Cambridge, Massachusetts. [3] Construction of Cornwall Regional Hospital was completed in 1972, but the hospital was not opened to the public until May 10, 1974. [2]
In 1859, KPH began offering 24-hour service seven days per week. In 1936, the then Senior Medical Officer, Dr Arthur Westmorland, separated surgical from medical cases for the first time. Four new operating theatres were built in 1962, in addition to the two previously built in 1928.
