Volume swells alter the tone of the note, reducing the treble tones of the attack and allowing the softer tone that follows to sustain. The technique is often executed using the guitar's volume knob. Beginning with the knob turned down to zero, it is increased when a note is played. The effect can also be performed by using a volume pedal.
Volume effects: Electro-Harmonix LPB-1, Fender Volume Pedal, MXR Micro Amp, Ernie Ball Volume Pedal. Treadle -based volume pedals are used by electric instrument players (guitar, bass, keyboards) to adjust the volume of their instrument with one foot while their hands are being used to play their instrument.
The expression pedal gives the organist control over the external source of power, and thus the volume, of the instrument, while leaving the user's hands free. This system of dynamic control is completely distinct from the act of adding stops (in the case of pipe organs ) or pulling more drawbars (in the case of organs and synthesizers).
A typical ETC system consists of three major components: (i) an accelerator pedal module (ideally with two or more independent sensors), (ii) a throttle valve that can be opened and closed by an electric motor (sometimes referred to as an electric or electronic throttle body (ETB)), and (iii) a powertrain or engine control module (PCM or ECM).
