Originally named Splash Landings, the name of the water park changed to Cariba Creek when the hotel was forced to drop the Calypso Springs name early in 2003. On 22 January 2018, Alton Towers announced that the ride would operate seasonally for 2018, operating only from 26 May to 4 September, but the ride operated throughout the season after a negative social media response. Some key features of the ride that were designed to get riders wet such as the waterfalls were temporarily isolated.
Development of the site included a hotel and outdoor waterpark. The second area opened in December 2008 and offers a condominium resort and indoor waterpark (titled the 'Wild WaterDome', which is one of the largest indoor waterparks in Tennessee [1]). The third area added was the 'Lake Wilderness' outdoor waterpark and became available in May 2009.
Submission was a simple ride, featuring a central tower with two gondolas attached to rotating arms on each side. Each gondola contained 6 rows of 4. When the ride started, the gondola was lifted 90 degrees back and forth, slightly tilting forwards and backwards and gradually rotated in a full circle with the gondola spinning the opposite way to the arm, making the riders go upside down.
