On my Robben Ford PRS the knobs are 1 ¼ inches apart. On my 1963 Tele they are 1 ¾ inches apart. And on both guitars the knob placement is horizonal. In contrast, on my 2021 McCarty the knobs are 2 ½ inches apart and their placement is angled with the volume control close to the treble pickup and the tone control further away.

The Supernatural was inspired by Robben Ford’s beautiful 1960 Slab board Fender Telecaster that I have been so lucky to look after, service and play for many years. I set out to build a lightweight ash bodied guitar with rosewood fingerboard on an early 60’s profile neck. I wanted it to have a real earthy bite in the bridge setting but ...

  11. Neck on Robben Ford's Tele - flat-, rift-, or quarter-sawn?
