The Vancouver Art Gallery is housed downtown in the neoclassical former courthouse built in 1906. Built in 1865, Hastings Mill Store is the oldest building in Vancouver. First Nations peoples had inhabited the region of Greater Vancouver for an estimated 3.000 years when the first European ships visited in 1791.
Originally built as the Vancouver World building, it acquired its current name when the Vancouver Sun (originally the Vancouver News-Advertiser) newspaper occupied the building between 1937 and 1964.
