Until the mid-19th century, the area that is now Grove City was a wilderness filled with oak, beech, maple, walnut, dogwood and other trees. The area's first European settler, Hugh Grant, operated a gristmill in Pittsburgh and transported excess goods down the Ohio River for sale, returning to Pittsburgh on foot.
Cities in Ohio are municipalities whose population is no less than 5,000; smaller municipalities are called villages. Nonresident college students and incarcerated inmates do not count towards the city requirement of 5,000 residents. [1] There are currently 253 cities and 673 villages in Ohio, for a total of 926 municipalities.
The population of Ohio was 11,785,935 at that time, a decrease of 0.1% from 2020. The average population of Ohio's counties was 133,931; Franklin County was the most populous (1,326,063) and Vinton County was the least (12,474). The average land area is 464 sq mi (1,200 km 2).
Today, the area is known as Gantz Park. The Gantz family lived in the house until the land around it was donated to Grove City as a park in 1973. The last Gantz family member to own the property was Blodwen Jones Gantz, widow of William B. Gantz, Adam's grandson.
